Where trouble melts like lemon drops

My precious Bubba,

These are the songs I sing to you at night while you’re having your last bottle and we’re getting you ready for bed.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow - I dreamed of singing this song to my bubba as a lullaby my whole life. And now I do.

Moon River - the version Audrey Hepburn sings in one of my favourite movies Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I can’t wait for us to be two drifters off to see the world.

While I sing them, you are cradled in my arms and we are usually laying on my bed with Bella and Beary. One arm holds your bottle (or me), your other arm is extended and gently patting one of your fuzzy siblings.

These two songs I sing to you also, sometimes when we’re dancing down the hall from my room to yours, stopping on the way to give Bella and Beary snuggles goodnight.

LOVE. I do love the original Nat King Cole recording, but I have a soft spot for Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble’s versions too. We’re often dancing while singing this one – and I point out the letters that spell LOVE which I stuck to your bedroom wall.

Can’t Take My Eyes Off You – another good dancing song … and the words oh SO perfectly describe how I feel about you. At long last love has arrived, and I thank god I’m alive – you’re just too good to be true, can’t take my eyes off you!

This time we share is a pocket of our world I’d like to be able to wrap up and keep for you … for the times in your life when you’re sad or scared, or would just like to remember.

I loved you before I met you. I loved you yesterday, I love you today, I will love you tomorrow and forever.

Your very lucky Mumma

  1. I love Moon River…my mumma used to play it for and with me on the piano when I was a little girl…thank you for the post…

  2. I love this. I also sing over the rainbow to my little ones. :) My mom always sang “you’ve got a friend” by Carol King/James Taylor and I’ve tried to keep it up. I’m not familiar with “Love”. I’ll definitely be checking it out now though. Thanks for sharing this.

  3. I am picturing it now….what a great Mum you are. These are some of my favs also!
