I’m the Big Sister, she’s the Little Sister. I’m seven years older than she is and there’s not one moment of the past 30-something years that I could have imagined my life without her in it. She makes the world that much brighter a place.
So many of my friends with bubbas who are Love Bug’s age are having their second babies. One has already arrived, a couple are imminent and at dinner last weekend there were a couple of new announcements and less girls enjoying wine with their dinner. Those who aren’t pregnant yet are trying.
As happy as I am for my friends, I can’t help but feel a twinge of sadness for me and for Bubba. I knew I could never afford to do it again on my own, but had hoped by now I may have met someone to try again with. I still may meet someone who has their own children, so Bubba might have siblings eventually. Paws crossed.
I’m sad that she’ll never know the utterly astonishing joy it is to have a sister. Sure she’ll have the best aunty in the world and for that I’m so grateful. I hope with everything I am that she will find the person in the world (and that may be a best friend) who becomes her sister from another mumma.
If you’re lucky like I am, you get a sister who is a built in best friend. Sisters are awesome.
I know, because I’m lucky enough to have the best Little Sister in the whole wide world. Thanks mumma!
