Gelato

What do a couple of girls do on a cold {well, cold for this time of the year – it is mid summer and we both had sweaters on} Saturday afternoon?

Take a walk to the local gelato institution: Bar Italia, an Italian cafe which has been around forever. The kind of cafe where Italian families, old Italian men who you imagine have been friends since they were kids and young Italian boys in suits {as well as a good population of non-Italian patrons} can be found crowded around tables inside and on the sidewalk outside. A no-nonsense menu of yummy Italian food and the tastiest gelato around.

So Bubba and I took advantage of a break in the rain and went for gelato – her first. I avoided the safe and probably a little more healthy options, and went straight for a good Italian flavour for one scoop: panna cotta; and for the second scoop: toblerone, a mumma favourite.

It was so big that we managed to eat the panna cotta and a few spoons of toblerone, but that is where it had us beaten. With happy tummies, we wandered home.

I think Love Bug liked it. She took it very seriously!
