I may be a fraud, but I’ll still eat the pancakes

I feel like a bit of a fraud celebrating Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day given that we’re not religious and the historical reason was to use up all the good stuff in your pantry in preparation for Lent watching what you eat in the lead up to Easter The Festival of Chocolate.

However, it seemed kind of mean to not let Bubba have her first taste of pancakes, so I got over worrying about the fraud police tapping me on the shoulder, and grandma came over for early pancake dinner with us.

You’ll see from the photos what a casual affair this was: Hoot the Owl placemats, butter still in the container, Bubba in her pj’s (Apollo too) … and no wine at mumma’s place setting (um, I’m not sure either)! Oh, and don’t look too closely at the misshapen pancakes - not my usual kitchen effort, but tasty no less.

I love that Bubba is pointing out there’s nothing on her plate yet.

a very casual affair

Bubba tried them with maple syrup, jam and lemon juice. I really didn’t think she’d like the lemon juice at all but she loved it. And she didn’t even have sugar to sweeten her lemon juice. What’s that about apples and trees?

My exhausted looking Love Bug ate most of them with her fork and seemed to savour the taste. She pointed at the plate full of pancakes the second she had her last mouthful of each pancake: more?

get on my fork savouring the taste

The only sad faces at the table belonged to our 4-legged loves. The look on Bella’s face says it all: but what about the puppies?

what about us?

Once my sister’s birthday is over next week, we will definitely go back to a much less sugary diet.

At least Bubba will.

Bella, I’m with you. I want some of those pancakes too.

  2. Pancakes! Yum! Mom went OUT with her friends for her pancakes. So no leftovers for me either, Bella….. What a bummer.
