I didn’t drink coffee until I was in my late 20s. I didn’t like the taste of it. Some years later, I’m still quite particular about the taste and have been known to throw a coffee away if I don’t like the taste at the first couple of sips. Life is too short for bad coffee, cheap wine or not-worthy men. However, I digress.
It’s been interesting to watch my little sister start drinking coffee in the past year. She’s in her mid 30s. She has mocha (hot chocolate/coffee hybrid) which is something I still drink from time to time.
So, why am I telling you all of this? Lorian, from the lovely DogDaz crew invited me over for a {virtual} coffee and a chat. I know, super cute idea, right? It’s a nice thought that I could sit down with my blogging friends over a cuppa and shoot the breeze about life in general.
1) How many cups of coffee per day? I usually only have one which I pick up on my way to the office during the week, and at the weekends Love Bug and I go to a cafe together, or get take out and go to the park. She has a babycino. The rare days I have a second coffee I know about it – my heart races and my sleep suffers!
2) What is your favourite caffeine delivery system? The boys at Joe Black! Joe Black is a cute little hole in the wall coffee spot on King Street in Sydney. It’s right across from the Apple Store if you’re ever in Sydney and in need of a fix. They also make the most delicious food and each morning there are freshly baked muffins sitting on the countertop, fresh out of the oven, all warm and smelling delicious. Occasionally one of them falls into my belly along with my coffee.
3) What was your best cup of coffee? Although I would never {ever, ever} refer to Starbucks as my best cup of coffee, it is the one with the most fun memories attached to it. I was very lucky to spend a month in New York over Christmas a few years ago when my little sister lived there. Until I found a decent coffee, each morning I would head out to explore the city, rugged up against the winter chill and my first stop would be the Starbucks on the corner of w14th and 8th or w14th near 6th if I was heading towards Union Square. A tall skim no whip caramel latte with a dash of cinnamon. Not really a coffee at all, more a warm drink that reminds me of New York, winter and Christmas.
4) What was your worst cup of coffee? There have been a few and, as mentioned a little earlier, I’ll throw it away if it’s a take out or send it back if I’m in a cafe. Life is too short!
5) What does your favourite mug say? This is my work mug. I love all of the Winnie the Pooh characters – Eeyore and Tigger are my favourites. Still.
6) How do you take your coffee? Large skim latte with one raw sugar. Or if I’m having plunger coffee I take it with skim milk and one raw sugar. White sugar and coffee do not go together. Since you asked!
7) When was your first cup? My mid 20s. I started drinking it because everyone in the office I worked in at the time did, it was a kind of social thing everyone did together.
8) Have you ever gone on a coffee tea date? I have been on more dates than any girl really should need to, so the answer to this one is a yes. Truthfully, I think a coffee or quick glass of wine date is the best kind of first date. The option is there to leave after the first cup if it’s not going well, or linger through a few courses if it is! Paws crossed the next one of those is the last first date I’ll ever go on. Then {and only then} I will publish my dating memoirs!
I have to say at this point that I really miss my coffee dates with my lovely friend Mel. Her family moved interstate a few months ago, and Bubba and I miss catching up wth her and her two lovely girls for coffee, chats, cuddles and salted caramels!
I have imagined this conversation taking place as Bubba, Bella and Beary run around playing with the DogDaz zoo, and our other coffee buddies (I am so glad Genevieve, Cupcake and Julie were there). Maybe Peanut is home from college for a visit? If so, I’m sure Bubba would give her lots of cuddles. She likes the attention she gets from grown up kids!
Next time we catch up for coffee, I’d like these friends to come too. Bubba has requested everyone to bring your furry pals because she wants to give them all loves. I’m thinking with this crowd, we’re going to want to get take away and go for a hike – there will be lots of zoomies going on {and I’m not just talking about the caffeine rush}!
Jen, Rumpy and DeDe – sign up for the Challenge; Bassa and the Tall Person – buy their eBook, it’s a great read; Sage and Ann; Bongo and his Person; Chuck and the Collies; and Dalton and his pack. I’d really like to invite all of our fuzzy pals to come along with their humans … but we might need a weekend of coffees by the time we got around to chatting to everyone, giving ear scratches and tummy rubs.
If I close my eyes, tap my red slippers together three times and wish really hard, maybe these virtual coffees could become a reality?
What a fun coffee date!! Fluffy buddies, kiddos, and coffee. Perfect!
Wouldn’t it be? 🙂
Coffee date? Did you say ‘coffee date’? I’ll be there!
Oh, wait. Mom says SHE’S the one that drinks coffee…I don’t need any more energy. 🙂 Anyway, WE’ll be there!!
Sage, I don’t think any of you puppies need more energy! See you soon.
I’m on my way right now for my Bubba loves. Woo woo!
Thought they might be a good way to entice you 🙂
What a wonderful coffee time you put together for all of us. I absolutely agree that life is tooooo short for bad coffee. I too will throw it away, rather than waste my time. I very much enjoyed your stories and really feel like we have gotten to know each other a wee bit better. Funny, I think I was just in that Joe Black on King street about 6 months ago when i was in Sydney. Maybe next trip I will see you and Bubba there. I take mine with soy-milk.
We would love to have a real coffee with you next time you visit!
Typist started drinking coffee to impress a boy she really fancied!
I hope he appreciated her for it!
Nope – Dated her best friend instead!
BOYS!
Yep! Really not worth the hassle!
I’m sorry I missed the challenge. Jen has been so sick and trying to work. Thank Dog she’s finally feeling better!
Oh no, I hope she’s okay and you have all been giving her extra loves.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could have a vertical coffee in person with the ones you invite. Then everyone magically goes back to they’re regular days 🙂
It sure would! Bubba would love some newf cuddles, although I’m not sure she could get her little arms all the way around 🙂
Random question? But do you know where you can buy the mugs? A friend of mine broke one of hers and is absolutely devastated about it and I’d like to buy her another 🙂
It was a homewares store in Sydney CBD {I think maybe at Wynyard} because that’s where we worked at the time. My assistant bought it for me years ago!
