The (extra)ordinary

In the past few days there have been lots of tears and lots of down time in our home as you know.

Not feeling 100% hasn’t seemed to have slowed Bubba’s development though. There have been some more firsts. She’s such a little sponge taking in everything around her, and learning in spite of her health!

When I picked her up from daycare today, she pointed at the tissue box. I pulled out a tissue and she held it to her nose and blew. Well, she blew air out of her mouth while simultaneously wiping her nose. But she’s getting there. She then put the tissue up to my nose so that I could blow mine. Ah, toddlers – such sharers! I have been holding tissues up to her nose for a while now, but this is the first time she’s done it on her own. Clever Bubba!

We have a chuckit for Bella and Bear. Not that it’s seen the light of day in the park for some time, but it’s handy when mumma just wants to sit on the back steps and throw the ball into the courtyard. I was in the kitchen yesterday and Bubba toddled in all proud of herself holding the chuckit. She had figured out how to put the tennis ball into the holder at the end and held it out so I could throw it for the dogs. I did and Beary caught it.

Lucky, because Bella has a habit of fetching then hiding the ball rather than bringing it back.

Beary bought the ball back and dropped it at Bubba’s feet. Repeat. So cute.

We’re playing chasings too. It started when I would leave the room and Bubba would get upset that I was gone, so I made a game of it and called for her, then surprised her by coming back around the corner, at which point she ran away. And so the game of chasings began. I love to catch up with her and swoop her up into my arms as she giggles. When she catches me she launches herself at me, throwing her arms around my legs. Love.

It’s no surprise that my three kids all love balls. Bubba now picks up the  baw (ball), calls for bar (Bear) and bebaa (Bella) then throws the ball for them (usually no further than a couple of feet, but it’s the effort that counts!) and sometimes she just carries the ball over to wherever they are and hands it to them. They’re a little confused with the latter, but they’re getting there.

They are ordinary days, but it’s good to look for the extraordinary in them. Like how gorgeous she is holding onto bunny with one hand and puppy with the other while she sleeps off her sickness…

  1. Bella fetches kind of like me. I get the ball and then sit on the couch with it and look confused. Mom tries to teach me, but we’re getting nowhere. I’m no Bubba when it comes to learning!!

    Love and licks,

  2. I love picturing her playing with the dogs. So, so cute!

    1. I keep trying to get photos but for some reason they’re blurry (or furry)!

She looks like she is doing great in learning new things and watching to see how things are done. I’m happy she continues to improve, I know that’s a great relief. Thank you for compliment on Newfs the are terrific dogs and I think beautiful ( course I’m predudice) 🙂

  4. I love the story about Bubba playing ball with Bear & Bella! And I know they are lovin’ it too.
