Instead of waiting beside the bath (as she does every night) for the bubbles to grow, last night, my little half-American Bubba stood in front of our television, captivated, as President Obama gave his victory speech.

Yay she cheered each time the crowd clapped, and she joined him in waving to the people.

As I watched her, I wondered if some part of her knows America is her other homeland – as she usually shows no real interest in television unless Jim Henson has had something to do with the creation of the characters on the show.

I also thought of one of the quotes I’ve framed and put in her room: dream big love bug, you can do anything,and I wondered what her calling will be when she grows up. I hope for her sake that she knows this quite early on in her adult life – and that she really does believe, just like President Obama – and her mumma – did, that you can do anything.

Whatever she does, I hope she does it with the enthusiasm and awe of the world that she had in that moment last night.
