Today I drove a route I’ve driven so very many times before. But so much has happened since I drove it last.

I went to see my gynae/obs for a check up. He gave me a cuddle when I walked in and told me I don’t look any older than when we met (some 15+ years ago). Love him. But that I look really thin. Love him more!

We had all the usual chats, he looked at pictures of Bubba and said it’s hard to believe it’s that long since he delivered her. He also said what a cutie she is. Uh huh.

As I drove home I thought about the many many times I’ve taken that journey and the varying reasons I’ve taken it. I’ve had PCOS, endometriosis, abnormal test results and a lump removed from my cervix.

All of those bumps in the road that led me to being healthy and ready to carry a baby to term. I travelled there every few weeks (then weekly) during my pregnancy, then my most important journey there: for Bubba’s delivery. And now back to my annual check ups.

All in the care of my wonderful doctor. A man who is as hard working as anyone I know. A man who has missed many an important milestone in his own life to be there making sure the most important milestone in so many lives is as perfect as it can be.

I am so grateful he believed me all those years ago when we first met and I told him I thought there was a problem with my ovary.

I am so grateful for his care of me over all of these years, over all the bumps in the road. I hope – if and when Bubba decides to be a mumma – that she has the care of an amazing doctor too. Maybe we’ll find one who was trained by mine?

I know that is a long way into the future, but it was on my mind as I drove home to my precious Love Bug.
