Mumma has the sads

To borrow our friend Rumpy’s expression, Oh Dog, mumma has the sads.

We’ve been trying to cheer her up and letting her tears wet our ears when she snuggles into us (even though it kind of tickles and makes our ears twitch). She says she’s going to be just fine, sometimes it’s good to have a cry when you are sad.

People are funny creatures aren’t they? Wet stuff falls from their eyes when they cry. That doesn’t happen if we get the sads. We just look at mumma and she knows we’re not our usual chirpy selves and gives us cuddles that make us feel better. Of course, we hardly ever get the sads. Except maybe if mumma is having peanut butter toast and she doesn’t share the crusts with us. Or if Bubba is having cookies and doesn’t share.

One of mumma’s closest friends is moving to live in another state. Her friend has a lovely bubba who is only a day older than our Bubba – that’s how they met. They’ve spent a lot of time together in the past year and a half, talking about bubbas and about being mummas for the first time (and second time for mumma’s friend) and planning and dreaming about ways they can work together but not have to work in big offices so they can spend more time with their loves. We are their loves too so we think they better hurry up with those plans!

The only good thing about our friends going to live in another state is that mumma and Bubba will go visit and hopefully grandma will come and stay with us while they’re gone. You know what that means don’t you? LOADS of extra loves and brushes and treats (oops, no, not extra treats, that was a typo – silly big paws)!

Another of mumma’s friends moved to Europe a little while ago and mumma just found out he has cancer again. So that made mumma extra sad. She says that friend is years younger than her and it just doesn’t seem fair. I wish we had a big plane so we could send her to visit him. Or even just enough kibble and second-hand, a little worse for wear toys to trade for a plane ticket.

She says sometimes it’s just good for a girl to have a cry, and that she’s lucky she has us to cuddle while she’s crying. If you say so mumma, but we like it better when you’re happy so hurry up and be done with the sads, okay?

This little thing made mumma smile today. Bubba has these cute slippers – that are still too big for her – that she loves. She was even wearing them over the top of her other shoes on the weekend. They have puppy faces on them and they jiggle when she walks. This morning Bubba took one of the puppy slippers to day care, and she even made mumma give the puppy a kiss goodbye.

She’s a funny Bubba! (And just between us, we’re hoping this signals she’s moved on from that cat phase.)

Woo woo,
Bella & Beary x

  1. Thank goodness you’re there to help Mumma through the sadness. She’s a strong Mumma, and will be fine soon. She will share her strength with her friends when they need her. Hang in there.
