Love Bug has a FAVOURITE song.
Do you remember your first favourite song? Not one you just liked and turned up a little louder when it came on the radio, but one you sought out, played, paused and replayed. Over and over. Until you knew every note and word by heart. And then some.
THAT kind of FAVOURITE song.
When I was a kid and uncovered a favourite song, listening to it and learning the words involved finding a tape recorder, having it at the ready with a fresh tape, in front of the radio just waiting and hoping for the DJ to announce your favourite song was coming up. Then hoping they didn’t speak over the intro or the end of the song. And that no-one in your household would make a peep to ruin the ambiance.
Learning the words took hours. Play, pause, write a few words down, rewind and repeat until you had what you thought were the correct lyrics. Rewind to the beginning and sing along. And … repeat.
In the less than three weeks since we first watched The Greatest Showman Love Bug {ergo: Love Bug, mumma, Beary and Harry} has listened to the soundtrack innumerable times.
While the entire soundtrack is played regularly, and there are a few songs on high rotation {Never Enough, Rewrite the Stars and Tightrope are sung daily} it is A Million Dreams that gets top billing. I’ve watched her load them on iTunes, then scroll through the lyrics singing along, until she has them memorised. {Oh, so much easier than the old tape deck!}
I asked her what it was about A Million Dreams that she liked so much. Was it the music, the lyrics?
Both mumma. It makes me think of the what the world could be.
What would that world look like Love Bug?
There would be Love everywhere and for everyone, there would be no pounds, there would be no-one hurting or eating animals, no-one would dump dogs, and there would be houses for the homeless people and their animals.
Something tells me the future is in very good hands.
{And yes, I may have shed a small tear or two!}
A Million Dreams {Benj Pasek, Justin Paul}
There’s a house we can build
Every room inside is filled
With things from far away
The special things I compile
Each one there to make you smile
On a rainy day
They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy
They can say, they can say we’ve lost our minds
I don’t care, I don’t care if they call us crazy
Runaway to a world that we design
Every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it’s gonna take
A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make
However big, however small
Let me be part of it all
Share your dreams with me
You may be right, you may be wrong
But say that you’re bring me along
To the world you see
To the world I close my eyes to see
I close my eyes to see
Every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
A million dreams, a million dreams
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it’s gonna take
A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make
For the world we’re gonna make
I close my eyes and I can see
The world that’s waiting up for me
That I call my own
Through the dark, through the door
Through where no one’s been before
But it feels like home
For the world we’re gonna make
i love this!
What a beautiful song and a beautiful world.
