Let’s talk about me for a minute

I thought we’d take a break from stories of my three gorgeous kids and talk about Mumma for a minute.

I’d like to know what has happened to me that I am now one of those girls whose underwear draw isn’t sorted neatly into matching sets? And this morning when I opened the top bathroom drawer I found not only toothpaste and associated teeth cleaning items, but a random draw-string bag, a nail file, some headache tablets and other bits and pieces. But not bits and pieces that belong in the top drawer in the bathroom. And don’t even get me started on my linen closet or my pantry.

It’s all gone a little cray cray in this house!

Things like that used to really bother me. Don’t get me wrong, they obviously still concern me somewhat or I wouldn’t be taking the time to share with you. Maybe I’m hoping if I shame myself publicly I’ll have to sort them all out?

I’m just not entirely sure where the time (or inclination) for that is going to come from? Other things seem to be more important. I’m a single mumma full time. I work full time. I write when I can. I have two lovely dogs who thankfully seem to be okay with whatever small amount of attention they can get. I have family and friends. They – like the dogs – seem thankful for the snippets of time I spend with them.

I vaguely remember exercise. I used to love to run. So did Bear. Poor Bear. I’d like to exercise again. My baby weight is long gone (thanks in part to not carrying much extra while I was pregnant, and in part to being my sister being married 14 weeks after bubba was born https://bumpyroadtobubba.com/2011/08/30/im-all-boobs/) – and it took a bonus couple of kilos with it! In it’s place it left a slightly different shaped, somewhat wobblier, version of my previous self. I did buy a great deal from Groupon last week though – 20 personal training sessions for $19. Fabulous. Now I just have to find the time to use them before they expire. Or before I do!

On the upside: I am happier than I’ve ever been. Bubba is lovely, happy and healthy. Bella and Bear are their usual gorgeous selves. My blog readership seems to have taken on a whole new level this year (and I have you to thank for that). I was recently asked if I’d like to blog for a parenting website.

And this weekend I went on a date (are we calling it that?) with my grade 10 boyfriend!

So how’s Mumma? I’m doing just great thanks. 2012 is off to a pretty wonderful start. I hope yours is too!

I just saw Bella’s interview on the Love of My Dogs blog. I really enjoyed it. Sounds like things are going well, but you’ll probably have to put up with disorganized drawers for the next twenty or so years.

  2. Hi!
Big smile! The dis-organization will be part of your life now. We know, we went through it. But, we found what is important is the time with those you love. The underwear, the socks, the drawers and all that will still be there when the family is raised. πŸ™‚ Cherish each moment, even the disorganization for someday you will smile and wish you didn’t have the time to organize it. Time flies…. cherish this time for it is something your will remember forever!

    Big Collie Hugs!

  4. You have your priorities right, and, as I told my daughter last night, it does get better!

Very happy to hear that 2012 is off to a good start. Do try to find time to blog for a parenting website – I am sure other parents would appreciate your lovely insights.
