The importance of a fairy godmother

We’ve all read tales of fairy godmothers. Mystical women (or fairies) who possess magical powers and care for their protegee, ensuring no harm comes to them and things would all work out okay in the end.

In the real world, Love Bug has her own Fairy Godmother (known simply as FGM). As a special treat, FGM came for a sleep over at our house last night – and as usually happens with FGM’s, she came bearing gifts – chocolate for mumma and a sparkly photo frame for Bubba – one which has a space for a photo (complete with crown) and the word Princess written beside it in sparkly pink letters. We’re just not sure which of the princesses in residence are going to get their photo in the frame!!

It’s not the gifts we love, but it is their growing relationship which makes my heart happy. Bubba’s FGM is not going to be the one to teach her to cook, or probably do too much domestically – other than gardening which mumma is notoriously bad at.

What she will teach her is to dance (FGM was a ballerina for many years), she’ll encourage her to laugh and be silly, she’ll teach her to put make up on (because even though mumma will also teach her, I’ll never really know how to do it as well as FGM, will I?), they’ll share their love of 4-legged friends (FGM has 3!), she’ll teach her the importance of a tiara for special occasions (like FGM birthdays).

It is a friendship I know Bubba will come to cherish as much as I do.

And even if everything isn’t as smooth as it is in the fairy tales, Bubba will be safe from any harm her FGM can control. And when life proves to be not quite like it is in the fairy tales, FGM be there with cuddles when they’re needed most.

Absolutely love your idea of an FGM. That is so sweet and I am sure that Bubba and FGM will have a special relationship. My daughter, who lost her grandparents very young, decided that that they worked as a team to be the Tooth Faires. My dad would lift the tooth away and my mom would leave the money. To this day (18 years) she wears a picture of each of them in a locket around her neck and feels they are always looking over her and protecting her. ❤

    1. That’s gorgeous! I lost my daddy when I was 16 so Bubba will never know her grandpa – other than as her guardian angel who we talk to all the time. He may just have to be the tooth fairy too. x

  3. Yes! We should all be blessed with a FGM – earthly would be best, but heavenly will do as well.
