Rufus

For a dog who has been wearing wings and chewing on big bones in the clouds for 30-something years, Rufus sure still gets his share of awwww and loves!

Bubba stands on the chair near my little desk each morning while I put her hair up. There’s a full length mirror for her to look in, my Facebook feed is churning, and my pin board sits behind the computer screen.

Lately the computer screen is of less interest and the pin board is getting a lot more of Who that? and awwwww and wow! Bubba? she asks when I point out photos of her. She’s not so sure when I say that pointing to the ultrasound pictures though. I think she thinks I’m tricking her! I like explaining who people are and where we were. And I love that her face lights up – almost in recognition – when I point to her Grandpa.

Bubba does her slight crouch, hands together as if she’s anticipating being able to reach out and touch something wonderful stance when she is focussed on puppy photos – it’s super cute.

Rufus was my childhood dog. He was an awesome dog. And he’s the reason I get puppy envy every time I see someone with a Border Collie.

All these years later!

  1. They never really leave us do they. Rufus is super beautiful, I can just imagine what a good friend he was while you were growing up. How wonderful Bubba honors him everyday like that.

I think that children of Bubba’s age don’t understand that the thing capture in the picture is no longer of this earth, so to her Rufus is as alive as when you took the picture. At least that is what I like to believe. 🙂

    1. Me too – and I love that she crouches down and gets as excited as if he were standing beside her waiting for loves!
