Sixth sense

This post is about a lot of things: love, fear, caring, relief, fretting, family, responsible pet ownership, stress … the list probably could go on!

Yesterday started out a little ordinary. After spending an hour on the phone with my bank the night before because someone was trying to hack my accounts online, I got another call from them to say there had been a fraud on my debit card. Lucky I have such a great bank and they were onto it straight away and have issued new cards which I should have by the weekend. Stress.

Within half an hour early in the afternoon I had messages from two of my neighbours to let me know that Bella and Beary were acting up. Bella was barking and Beary was howling. Apparently this had been going on for a few hours. I looked at the clock and judged how long it was until I could go home. After a few more minutes I knew I just had to go home and check. Responsible pet ownership.

When I opened the front door, Beary was standing at the baby gate howling at me, running up and down the 3 stairs and barking. Bella was nowhere in sight. Fear.

I called her name immediately and kept calling her. Then I heard her bark. Relief.

Somehow she’d gotten into Love Bug’s bathroom and the door had closed. So she’d been in there for hours. Barking to let someone {anyone?} know that she was stuck. Oh, and trying to dig her way out. Poor Beary had been on the other side of the door trying to let her know he was there, and let someone {anyone?} know that she was stuck and they needed help. Fretting.

[Aside: anyone who knows a handyman, we need some painting & carpentry done!]

Other than scratching the door, and a little hole in the fly screen covering the window, neither of them had done any damage. No ouchies on their paws from the splinters that used to be the door frame. No going to the toilet anywhere they shouldn’t have from the stress of it all. Good puppies.

As soon as I opened the door, Beary was at Bella’s side giving her loves, kissing her face and her ears. He barely left her side all afternoon and evening. And I slept last night with the pair of them wrapped up by my side. Family.

Even though I had cleaned up the mess and given the pups lots of love by the time I picked Bubba up from day care, I think she knew that something was up. Her sixth sense kicked in and she kept asking both dogs you okay? Caring.

Last night after her bottle, Bubba picked up Bella’s paw very gently, held it to her face and inhaled that earthy puppy paw pad smell. Then she rubbed Bella’s paw against her face and kissed it before she gently laid it down again. Then she threw herself at me and showered me with kisses. It felt like a thank you for having puppies in our lives.

Love. Love love lovedy love LOVE.

    1. They were ace, I just wish I’d been able to get home to them sooner! Thank goodness our neighbours called us.

What an ordeal! Glad your neighbor’s gave you a heads up. Your bubba is adorable and your passion for pets has obviously been passed on to her 🙂

    1. She absolutely loves them! So much so that she became totally distraught yesterday when her favourite neighbourhood cat ran away from loves. She asked Bella and Didi why that happened & this was their response: http://pawstotalk.net/2012/11/01/bubba-the-little-human-why-dont-cats-love-me-as-much-as-dogs-do/

One locked in and one locked out unable to help is scary. Now their back to having each other and Mom is home giving them love. Everything is OK now 🙂
