When it was time for bed last night, this is what I found when I got to my bedroom.
Bella is a long-term pillow hog. The photo below was taken in 2005, when she was a puppy.
In fact, the first night she joined our family, she slept on the pillows in my bed. My sister was so excited that we finally had a dog in our family that she stayed the night too, and one of her vivid memories of that night was Bella sleeping on the pillow and breathing in her ear!
As I manoeuvred myself diagonally into bed last night, not wanting to interrupt my pillow hog or Beary, who was positioned at the bottom of the bed, I looked over at the top of Bella’s fuzzy head and felt an odd sense of déjà vu.
Then I realised why. Another 2005 photo below, when most of her head and snout were covered with fur as dark as night, with the exception of her cute little ‘eyebrows’.
Her face may be greying, but it is still the prettiest puppy face I’ve ever seen. I’m so glad she chose me to be her family and I am thankful every single day for the privilege of sharing her life.
My little fuzzy soul mate. My favourite of all rescue stories!

Hard core pillow hog! Amazing pictures. Some things never change!
Great post MJ! I just had to comment because these pics of Bella are melting my heart. My Sonny loves jumping up onto our bed at 4am each morning, walking up to our pillows and snuggling between us.
I thank my lucky stars everyday that my Sonny chose me to be his human mum. Having furry family members has made my life so amazing.
I’m often to be found in a puppy sandwich. Less so in summer, but always in winter. They do make life amazing!
I think you should be honoured she allows you to share her pillows! BOL
Oh, I am Dalton!
The pictures of your little fuzzy soul mate are lovely xx
And that’s why Sage got her own pillow….except she still hogs mine. She and Bella must be related!
