Incidental diagnosis

Sometimes as a mumma you miss little things.

Yesterday afternoon as I busily continued our packing to move, Bubba was playing happily, doing her own version of packing. This involved taking every block and piece of Lego from their boxes and packing them into every available bag in her room. Thankfully I’d already packed most of her room so there were only three bags to pack.

She wandered in and out to chat to me, but wasn’t walking at all. She was crawling from room to room. She does this occasionally, when she’s being the baby so I didn’t think too much of it. When she wanted to go further she asked me to carry her. Again, I didn’t think too much of it because she likes to be carried.

It wasn’t until she’d had her dinner and I asked her to pick up Bella and Beary’s bowls that I noticed she wasn’t putting any weight on her right leg. Thus the crawling. All afternoon. She said it was sore but only when she walked on it. Which she absolutely wasn’t doing.

It’s hard not to beat yourself up as a mumma for not picking up on things earlier than you do, but once I realised I had a good look and tested her movement. No swelling, no heat around her joints, full movement but just not able to bear any weight. Just to be on the safe side we popped up to our local ER to have them check it out. We saw a lovely doctor who said she thought it was muscular {after she’d done all the things I did at home}.

She then checked Love Bug’s ears and throat. Except she didn’t want to open her mouth, so brave mumma opened her mouth wide so the doctor could show her how it’s done. At which point the doctor asked me do you have a sore throat? I’ve had a sore throat for weeks. Are you tired/stressed/run down right now? I guess you could say that {?!?!} … why?  You have an enormous ulcer in your throat. Thanks for that incidental diagnosis! When we talked about what I could do to help with it medically and then she looked at me and said what you really need is some proper rest. I may have laughed out loud.

we need to be doing more of this

Back to Love Bug. Some pain relief and keep an eye on her. Although still limping this morning, she told me her knee is feeling a bit better. Seemingly improved by the application of a yellow band aid featuring Winnie the Pooh carrying a purple balloon.

I wonder if that would work for my ulcer? Although I’m more of a Tigger girl!

    1. Thanks lovely! Mumma is coming to help me pack the kitchen on the weekend. Once that’s done I’ll feel a little more prepared for the move.
