I’ll share more of Bubba’s birthday picnic soon, but today’s post is all about the cake. Yes, it was that good that it deserves a whole post dedicated to it.

Love Bug’s aunty made her a birthday cake. No, scratch that. Her aunty made her an Uh-mazing cake. Seriously amazing. Amazeballs. Awesomesauce birthday cake. And it was a surprise! All I knew about it before she arrived at Bubba’s birthday brunch picnic with it was that it had a rainbow theme, because she’d bought a candle a month or so ago which is a two with pale rainbow coloured polka dots. And of course that set our colour theme for the day. On arrival, seeing that the cake was all white on the outside, I figured the rainbow must have been on the inside. But I couldn’t have possibly imagined this!

I know she won’t mind me saying this – and before you see the cake you kind of need to know this. I am the one with the nickname Martha in the family (despite yesterday’s sharing, I still hold the title!). It’s not that my sister can’t cook, because she can. But it’s not a relaxing hobby for her like it is me.

Knowing that, and without further ado, I present you the cake.

It was a very hot and humid morning yesterday in Sydney. We were all melting, and for a lot of the picnic Bubba ran around in a nappy and frilly knickers. It’s a wonder the cake didn’t melt too.

Bubba thought the round discs on the top looked like fun buttons to push. When she realised just how much fun, there was no stopping her. Then my sister joined in!

If anyone else had laid a finger on that masterpiece, I would have been so cross at them. But the engineer and the gift recipient were the ones in destruction mode, so I could hardly tell them to stop (although I did manage to salvage some). And you can see how much fun they had!

I’d say that’s a job well done. The eight million hours spent making the cake, and the eight minutes destroying it.

I am still having trouble grasping that in one more sleep my Bubba will be two. What a lucky Bubba she is to have the World’s Best Aunty!
