I’ll blow out the candle because it’s too far from heaven

It’s a big week for us.

Today my daddy would have been 76, as hard as that is to imagine. He was only a couple of years older than I am now when he died.

I'll blow out the candle because it's too far from heaven

What would he look like as a 76 year old man? If I imagine him as he was – then squint a little, think that his chicken legs and arms would probably have gotten thinner, his middle maybe a little rounder, and his candy cut would probably now be a lovely bald head with a few sprouting white hairs here and there.

Even though his arms would probably be thinner, it would still be lovely to feel them wrapped around me. And to feel him wrapped in one of Love Bug’s team cuggles.

Love Bug asked me if we were going to have a party for him. We talked about the fact that even though he can’t come from heaven for the party, that he’s always with us in our hearts. She decided that tonight we will share one cupcake and one candle. We’ll sing really loudly so he can hear us, but that she will blow out the candle.

Because it’s too far from heaven.
