RIP Cecil

Why on earth do we human beings have such a God complex over animals?

It is past time we showed some respect for the creatures we share the earth with. Spoken from my stance as a vegetarian, but also as someone with a heart, values and a strong sense of right and wrong.

Sounding familiar? If you’re a regular reader it would. It’s how I opened my recent post about the YuLin Festival a little over a month ago. Yet, reading the news over the past 24 hours, there seems very little else I could say to start this post.

Cecil, a majestic 13 year old lion is well known, long-studied and one of the most beloved animals in this Zimbabwean National Park, Hwange. He lived in a protected area of the park.

RIP Cecil

Until this week when Walter James Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota paid $68,000 to perform an unspeakable act.

His party tied another dead animal to their truck and when Cecil got the scent, lured him out of the protected area of the park. Then they shot him with a cross bow. He escaped at that point and spent the next 40 hours. Yes 40 hours being chased by Palmer and co. When they finally had him in their sights, Palmer shot him.

And then he beheaded Cecil.

I have no words. I mean, I do, but the words I have are a string of expletives longer than the day. What sort of utter fuckwit would do that? Seriously? I will just NEVER understand that mentality. Ever.

Apparently Palmer thought it was a legal killing. I don’t give a rats arse if you thought it was legal buddy, you stalked and killed an innocent animal.

What the hell happened in your life that your imbecilic brain thinks that is an acceptable thing to do? And not just to do because you happened to be there, but to plan and pay to do {along with the 18,500 other absolutely revolting humans who go to Africa to trophy hunt each year}?

Do you know how much good you could have done if you’d donated that substantial amount of money to animal welfare? No, you probably have never given it a second’s thought. Because there’s good and evil, and stalking, killing and beheading an innocent animal definitely does not fall on the good side of life.

So, your dental clinic is closed entirely right now? Good. I hope it stays closed. I’d really like for you to know a little suffering. Actually, I’d like you to know a lot of suffering.

I’m sure there are a few animals who would agree with me.

Oh, and just so you know, the lion in the photo immediately above is not Cecil. Oh no, that’s Palmer with a different lion he killed. Apparently he’s quite the legend in hunting circles.

RIP Cecil. I’m sorry on behalf of humans that the end of your life was fraught with fear and danger. I’m sad … but I’m also furious. I wish they would lock Palmer and cohorts up – and throw away the key.

I agree 100% and then some. This was horrible. Like shooting fish in a barrel. Big game hunter. Bullsh*t. RIP Cecil. You didn’t deserve this. 😦

I agree whole heartedly, what an evil man 😦

I too was outraged. Though trophy hunting is not illegal, it should be. What a waste of life and resources. And don’t get me started on how that country needs attention on their human problems (healthcare, poverty) and the world is focused on them because of a lion. 1. Priorities. What are those things you speak of? 😉
