Today is International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is #PressforProgress. We are asked to select one particular area to focus on to progress gender parity in our own environs.
While they all strike a chord with me, I think the one that really stands out is this:
Too often we see women tearing other women down when we should be supporting each other.
We should celebrate each other’s successes – whether they be getting through a truly tricky day as a mumma, nailing that painting you’ve been working on, winning a new piece of business, or winning an Oscar {hello Francis McDormand and Kristen Anderson-Lopez acceptance speeches!}.
We should also celebrate each other’s grace, strength and determination. Celebrate our tenacity even if it doesn’t lead to success. Support and celebrate the journey we are all on.
We owe it to ourselves, to each other, and to our daughters. My sister and I have the most amazing mumma to thank for growing up knowing that we are equal in this world and can do anything.
Love Bug, for you, and for every one of your friends, I will never stop fighting for the day when the world is a level playing field for all of us. This I promise you. It is a big world out there. Keep exploring. Be your authentic self. You are amazing. I am proud of you and so insanely grateful to be your mumma. You can do anything. And I know you will.
I would be remiss not to mention my incredible support crew of outstanding women. You know who you are. You have my love, my support and my eternal thanks that you are my soul sisters.
